WARRNAMBOOL.
The club had a discussion this past week regards this tournament.
We have agreed that the club will pay the nomination fee as well as cover the cost of a mini-bus to get you there. This means that the cost to you as players will only require you to pay for your accommodation (which we are trying to arrange now! Likely to be cheap if we can possibly wangle it) and your food while you are there.
This is a fantastic opportunity as a Mt Lofty player to take advantage of and very generous of the committee to offer.
Renee Healey and I have called for committment from players a couple of times and we get the impression that cost may be a limiting factor for some of you to be able to commit fully.
Hopefully the above offer will help you out in this regard.
Can you then please get back to either Renee Healey (women) or Brian Kempe (men) if you are committed to going. At present I think we have 5 committed women players and 3 men.
TRAINING
Training for the club starts on Tuesday February 23rd at 7pm a Lofty , which is 2 weeks before the Warrnambool weekend - earlier than we have ever started I think, but the merits of attending a pre-season tournament are very worthwhile. Please get back to us by the end of this week. January 22nd! Thanks
NATIONAL MOUNTAIN BIKE EVENT
We ended up helping out at the Mountain Bike National Championships this weekend as per my call for helpers last week - and once again this was a realtively easy and worthwhile fundraising exercise for the club. Thankyou very, very much to Peter Rowe for the opportunity and all his help over the 3 days.
Thankyou also to Paul Dalby, David and Rae Eldridge, Stuart, Janice and Lauren Scott, Judy Graham and Callum and Tom Sarre, Mark Lowrie, Ben Sawon and Caitlin Kempe for their respective contributions. Well done all.
THE SHED
A social occasion to mark the completion of the almighty "Lofty Catering Shed" has been booked for Tuesday February 16th (one week before training starts). There will be a BBQ that night from 6.00pm til stumps, and the opportunity for anyone and everyone associated with the club, and in particular those of you who were involved in the building of the shed, to come along, have a hit on the beach courts, have a chat and a laugh (goes without saying!) to celebrate its completion! So put that in your diaries! Please RSVP (email or text) to me if you are coming (for catering purposes).
This time 12 months ago it was the "slab party" when all we had was a 25 sq m piece of concrete - my what progress we have made!
I must once again thank Mark Lowrie and David Eldridge on behalf of everyone or their outstanding and un-relenting contribution to this project - there have been many others of course, but these 2 in particular have been dogged in so many ways to making this happen. It is a monumental achievement, Mt Lofty is now probably the only "real estate owning" volleyball club in the country, and has another resource that will benefit all Mt Lofty members, HHS and anyone else who uses Mountain Beach for many years to come! It will provide a continuous income stream to the club as well through food and drink sales etc. Fantastic!
FACEBOOK.
We are in the process of setting up a Mt Lofty Facebook page too - so make sure you accept Mt Lofty Volleyball Club as a friend once that is up and running! Thanks Carolyn.
